Pediataric Dentistry

Who is a pediatric dentist?
Pediatric dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry. They are specially trained for children’s unique dental health needs. A pediatric dentist is one who deals with all kinds of dental problems for children and are highly trained to manage and treat children, by creating a friendly environment suitable for the child.
To help a child stay totally healthy, the pediatric dentist often works with pediatricians, other physicians and other dental specialists. All children, whether healthy, chronically ill, disabled, or mentally impaired are served best through this team approach. This specialty is becoming even more important as a result of technical advances in medicine and dentistry and the increased populations of children with chronic diseases and congenital problems.
They are also trained in management of uncooperative, physically handicapped and mentally challenged children.

Pediatric (also paediatric or pædiatric) dentists promote the dental health of children as well as serve as educational resources for parents. It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that a dental visit should occur within six months after the presence of the first tooth or by a child's first birthday. The PEDIATRIC DENTIST are important to establish a comprehensive and accessible ongoing relationship with patient – referring to this as the patient's "dental home". This is because early oral examination aids in the detection of the early stages of tooth decay. Early detection is essential to maintain oral health, modify aberrant habits, and treat as needed and as simply as possible. Additionally, parents are given a program of preventative home care (brushing/flossing/fluorides), a caries risk assessment, information on finger, thumb, and pacifier habits, advice on preventing injuries to the mouth and teeth of children, diet counseling , and information on growth and development.
